Today, by Spose di Milano, a trend store that offers the best international brands, we met Lazaro Perez, an American designer who has been designing two collections dedicated to the weddng world for years, which are very successful in the USA and beyond.
You are one of America’s best bridal designers. What’s the secret of you success?
I’m one of the few designers that do Trunk Shows and I’m very open to suggestions. I get to be one on one with my brides during these trunk shows and I have the chance to hear what they want.
I design for my bride and this is probably the reason for my success.
What inspires you when designing the collection?
First of all I ask to my sales team what has done well, what are my number one dresses and why they were successful. From this I start to draw. Another inspiration comes from the fabrics that I use.
You spent more than 20 years creating gorgeous wedding gowns. How have your designs evolved over the years?
My designs evolved quiet a bit in time from very elaborate to minimalist and then back into a more traditional style with lots of lace. A lot of us as designers look at what is happening on the red carpet to see what is going to influence the bridal industry.
You are the designer of the Lazaro and Tara Keely collections: Which is the main theme of each collection?
Tara Keely collection is very soft, more romantic with some traditional beadings for the younger brides from 20 to 30 years old. Lazaro bride is more sophisticated, dramatic for the more mature brides from 30 to 50 years old. I try to keep the two collections very different.
What do you love most about designing for the bridal industry?
It’s the whole aspect of being such an important part of a woman’s life. To be part of their journey and making their dream come true is so rewarding as a designer.
Why did you decide to come and show in Milan?
It’s my second time in Milan, and I had such a great experience the first time that I want to come back to help expand the brand.
What are your projects for the future?
The main project is to expand the European market. Which we only moved into two years ago with the Signature collection.
