Interview with Jennette Kruszka – Director of Marketing and PR

So how do the European designers do here?

They do very well.  We are doing good with Italy with Maison Signore, Antonio Riva, Le Spose di Giò and from Spain Pronovias and Yolan Cris to name some.

Who decides what collections to bring to the shop each season?

Our buyer Dorothy Silver and Mara Urshel the owner. They go to all the markets in Europe to see all the trends and decide what to bring back to sell here.

I see you also have beautiful accessories!

We have tons of accessories, headpieces, and belts which are very popular its a great way to accessorize the dress and create two looks in one. Crowns, petite headbands, and combs are very popular, and the bendable and flexible headpieces also very popular because you can form them in anyway you want. We also have a shoe boutique carrying Jimmy Choo, Badgley and Mishka, also Sarah Jessica Parker did some shoes for us including 12 styles exclusive to us.

How many people work at Kleinfeld?

We have about 220 employees, especially in busy season with all the alterations.

In your shop what is the criteria to select a brand?

It is actually whatever the bride is looking for, the bride may come in with photos of a dress she likes or  explain a certain shape that she likes, and then it is up to the sales consultant to search through the stockroom for the perfect dress.  Our staff is really well trained to know price, design and how they fit.
In our stockroom we have over 1000 sample dresses to choose from.

In Italy the bride picks her dress 6/9 months in advance. Here at Kleinfled what is the timing?

Most of our brides shop 9 to 12 months prior to the wedding, they pick a dress we take 3 measurements bust, waist, hip and we order the dress. We order from the designer and then we store it until she makes her first alteration appointment which is typically 2 months prior to the wedding.

We are, probably, the largest work room in NYC. Here is where the real magic happens! The staff, at least 80 people, do sewing, beading, embroidering, pressing and quality control. The final step after all the alterations is where they do the pressing and quality control and then they stuff the dress by using a cardboard and tissue paper, they will even put tissue in the bow at the back to make sure it stands up properly. People don’t realize how much work goes into preparing the dress for the perfect wedding. It’s not just buying a dress off the rack. After all this the perfect dress is put in the bag and will wait for the bride on her wedding day!!

So would you say every bride can find the right dress from your store?

Yes we have a dress for every bride, as we have over 60 designers and 1000 samples. Here you can surely say “yes to the dress”!!

Intervista con Jennette Kruszka – Direttore Marketing and PR

Come stanno andando i designer europei qui da voi?

Molto bene.

Chi decide quali collezioni verranno portate in negozio ogni stagione?

Qui si può sicuramente dire “yes to the dress”!!
