New York Bridal Week - Exclusive weddingfashionblog.com interview with Giselle Dubois, Spina Bride, New York (Part 1)

Here is the exclusive weddingfashionblog.com interview with Giselle Dubois, Spina Bride, New York (Part 1):

Spina started as a Floral company in 2008, and about a year and half ago we decided to go into Bridal

I have been in the sourcing production business for 12 years and my business partner has been in the floral business for 20 years so we both have a love for fashion, and we wanted to shake up the industry a little bit.  We have closed door appointments no one comes in during the time the appointment, it is just the Bride, her friends and family so it is very intimate and people like that.  It also helps with high profile clients who don’t want to be in a space with anyone else. We also want to do something a little different for our brides so we do international designers and exclusivity.

Samuelle Couture houses her pieces here in the United States and lives in Brooklyn so she can physically come in and meet the brides and tailor everything to their measurements so its a very collaborative experience and all the fittings will be done in the shop.

Liz Martinez is another designer from Israel that was just added to the collection in February with many amazing designs and already a lot of brides coming in for them.

A La Robe now based in Paris is very much the slip dress queen, adding the elaborate veil to this dress and creating a completely different look that many of the girls are going for.

Lee Grebenau is a made to measure designer who does a lot of customization with the girls, and she also loves playing around with a lot of colour think blush tones, nude, illusion and if the Bride wants to be a little bit more traditional she can also do the dress in Ivory.

Dan Jones another Australian designer in the store, he likes to keep in line with tradition but also play around with the see through bodices and higher necklines, with illusion and also more fancy pieces that are not exactly traditional bridal.  He is also into customizations.

The last designer in the store Daalarna Couture is based in Budapest and is the most Bridal designer that we have but still with an edge.

All the designers we carry have a story.  Each time a Bride comes in we walk them through the store sharing about the designers and their capabilities; Brides love to change things up so there is a lot of customization that happens in the shop.  This is one of the things that distinguishes us from the mass market.

The brands that you have in the shop are in other stores or you are the only one to carry them?

I am the only one that carries the designers I have in store in the NY tri-state area and some in the entire East Coast.  This makes the designers even more special as they are harder to find- therefore brides really travel all around the world for them.  They are not oversaturated in the market- making our brides feel really special.

How do you organize the meeting with the designer and the bride?

What happens is I will have the bride in the store and she roams around, lets me know what she’s interested in, and if for example that specific bride wants to proceed with a Samuelle gown then I will coordinate an appointment with the designer, and only if the bride is really interested then they will meet with her.  Sometimes I will have trunk shows where the designers do come in and they’ll showcase there entire featured line which I might not carry as I only have one shop and it’s small, but it helps to bring brides in and it is nice to have that one on one with the designer as well.
